Research in primary care helps improve patient care, treatments and services by giving patients the opportunity to take part in NHS research studies through their GP practice.
We work in partnership with the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Community Research Network to support GP practices across Brighton & Hove to take part in research and offer research opportunities to their patients.
Research carried out in GP practices helps to:
- Improve treatments and patient care
- Develop new ways of delivering services
- Ensure local patients can take part in national research studies
- Support practices to be research-active organisations
For GP Practices
We support practices to take part in research by providing central coordination and support, including:
- Clinical leadership for research projects
- Identifying suitable patients for research studies
- Contacting patients on behalf of practices
- Managing research administration, contracting and finance
This makes it easier for practices to take part in research without increasing workload and allows more patients to take part in research locally.
For Patients
Taking part in research is voluntary and helps improve healthcare for future patients as well as those receiving care today.
Patients may be contacted about relevant research studies, or may be offered the opportunity to take part when attending a GP appointment. If you choose to take part in a study, you will be given full information before deciding whether to participate.
Individual care is not affected if people choose not to take part in research.
