Contraceptive Coil Clinic

This service provides coil fitting and removal appointments for patients registered with a Brighton & Hove GP practice. Appointments are provided by experienced local GPs and clinicians at clinics across the city.

Types of Coil

There are two main types of contraceptive coil:

IUD (Intrauterine Device)
Also known as the copper coil. This is a small plastic and copper device that is placed in the womb to prevent pregnancy.

IUS (Intrauterine System)
Also known as the hormonal coil. This is a small plastic device that is placed in the womb and releases a hormone to prevent pregnancy.

If you are unsure which option is right for you, this can be discussed with a clinician before your appointment.
